HydroMontania
Digitally supported irrigation for sustainability in mountain regions

We are revolutionizing irrigation with innovative automated systems. Our solutions save water and time.

Challenge

Global warming and fluctuating  precipitations pose an increasing challenge in mountain regions. The associated water shortages are leading to conflicts of use.

Mountain regions and their populations, ecosystems, and economies are severely affected by climate change and its effects on temperatures and precipitation. This is the case worldwide.

Changes in the temporal  distribution of precipitations and in the associated availability of water resources lead to increased conflicts of use (e.g. between mountain agriculture and electricity production or tourism) and restrictions (e.g. in animal husbandry due to a lack of drinking water and fodder). Both the scarcity of water and the resulting conflicts pose a threat to the persistence of unique, economically valuable, and biologically diverse mountain landscapes of high cultural heritage.

Strategy

A targeted use of water in mountain agriculture and the resulting reduction in water consumption can help address the increasing problem of usage conflicts.

During the hot summer months, various sectors of the economy as well as private users need simultanously increased quantities of water. To meet all needs, water consumption must be questionned and reduced, and the necessary water must be distributed in a fair and targeted manner both in space and time.

HydroMontania solution

With digital support, model-based forecasts, and a smart control system, irrigation becomes demand-oriented. This significantly reduces water consumption and preserves the  yield.

Water requirement forecasts are entirely model-based and specifically calculated for individual parcells. Our solution thereby works without sensors in the ground and determines water reqruiements using weather forecasts, plant growth, and various soil parameters. Depending on the product selected, irrigation is carried out manually or automatically.

For whom is HydroMontania

Our customers are as diverse as the  benefits of adopting the HydroMontania solution and include water cooperatives, municipalities, tourism associations or agricultural cooperatives
